Avatar Review by Gareth

In many respects, Avatar is a masterpiece of modern film film making.

After 14 years of technological development James ‘King of the World’ Cameron has delivered probably the most visually stunning and fully immersive (with 3D specs) alien world in the history of cinema.

Forget Star Wars, this is the best looking film ever made.

The plot may be cliched and similar to other plots but Avatar does it better than any other. The running time may seem hefty at 2h 40m, but not a single minute of that will have you anywhere other than the edge of your seat.

The acting, especially from the leads of Sam Worthington (Jake Sully) and Zoe Saldana (Neytiri) are sublime and totally believable as the marine and tribeswomen.

The supporting cast too are excellent, and the brilliant Stephen Lang in the role of Colonel Quaritch provides a genuinely loathsome and ‘badass’ bad guy who will likely go down as an icon of modern cinema.

James Horner’s soundtrack is excellent for the film itself but is unmemorable and unfortunately has little replay value when listening to the soundtrack solo.

In brief, believe the hype. In 3D, at least, this is the one of the best films of the decade.
